Cocktail of the Week - Plumb the Soul

"This is an incredibly dry drink. I wanted to use Tullamore Dew because I love the honey notes in that. I think it's a really interesting drink for people who normally only drink whisky or anybody who likes grapefruit, because it's razor-sharp. Weirdly enough, even before you add the grapefruit peel, it has this grapefruit taste. It's really a spring and summer drink. Every time you take a sip, even before the glass gets down to the table, you want another. It's got that great, dry salivating thing going on." —Toby Maloney, The Violet Hour, Chicago

Plumb the Soul
1.5 oz Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey
.5 oz Clear Creek Blue Plum Brandy
.25 oz Campari
.75 oz fresh lemon juice

Shake with ice and strain into a rocks glass over ice. Express a slice of grapefruit peel and use as garnish.

Minnie & I were drawn to this lovely afternoon cocktail for our celebration of the Caesarean spring equinox. There's still enough winter in the air to require whiskey & brandy, but the blood orange cast to the drink makes it an optimistic sacrament. All the shuttered, frozen veins of the world will begin to flow again.

Yours in Satan,
Roman & Minnie
